Design Power, Inc. and Bitwyse Solutions, Inc. Announce Integration of Lasergen™ with Plantwise™
Integration Enables Owner/Operators and Engineering Procurement Contractors To Automatically Route Pipe Through LASER Generated Existing Conditions Data For Plant Retrofit/Rework Projects
Houston, Texas - January 27, 2003 - Design Power, Inc., and BitWyse Solutions, Inc. today announced that they have entered into an Agreement for the integration of BitWyse's LASERGen laser scanning analysis software with Design Power's PlantWise Plant Concept Modeler. The integration of the products makes possible automatic routing of pipe through an existing plant that has been modeled using laser-scanned data. It also allows rapid modeling of equipment and structure additions and demolition of old.
According to Ross Porter, Manager of Engineering Excellence at Halliburton KBR, "We use both products within KBR in the execution of our Engineering work process. We couldn't be more pleased that Design Power and BitWyse are working together to integrate their products. This integration will allow KBR to be more responsive to our customers, and allow us to be more efficient in our efforts in planning, estimating and executing non-Greenfield projects"
The integration of PlantWise and LASERGen puts retrofit and revamp projects on Fast Forward. LASERGen renders scanned as-builts in standard CAD. PlantWise incorporates LASERGen obstacle information, reasons about existing space constraints, and enables rapid modeling of retrofit designs. Users have the power to route pipe between old and new in seconds; evaluate cost; review for operability and maintainability; rearrange and re-route iterating to the best layout; and pass the optimal model on to detail design. All in a day's work.

(View animation)PlantWise(tm) lets users quickly define the optimal layout through rapid iteration and thus significantly speed up front-end process plant design. PlantWise software automates many aspects of the conceptual design of complex plants. It creates a 3D model, which is used to quickly assess layout alternatives, complete with automatically routed piping, and accurately estimate costs early in the design process. Companies using the software for quick review of multiple scenarios for equipment, structure and piping placement include both global Owner/Operators and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) service providers.
LASERGen provides the ability to display reality based, existing conditions data directly inside a Bentley Systems, Inc. MicroStation® design session within minutes of the data being captured. Lasers create extremely large datasets of the existing conditions, which LASERGen displays directly into your design session, allowing the use of existing MicroStation commands. No need to learn or support other applications that require the data to be traced with CAD geometry prior to use inside MicroStation. In addition, users have the ability to clash existing conditions data against new MicroStation CAD data, or show where as-designed data is not the same as as-built data.
