What is DrawingWise
For manufacturers of capital equipment DrawingWise automates the pre- and post sales creation of drawings and required documentation.
DrawingWise
Engineered-to-Order On-time, On-budget, Error-free
Automate generation of Drawings, Bills-of-Materials, Cost Estimates, Technical Spec's and Proposals.
The supply of sophisticated engineered-to-order (ETO) equipment is on your client's critical path. It is a complex business process that includes bidding, engineering, design, manufacturing, installation and commissioning of the equipment and all its supporting systems. No ERP system supports the most critical phase of this process: engineering and design. DrawingWise does.
Reduce cycle time, facilitate early collaboration with clients, minimize rework and ensure rapid delivery. DrawingWise automated bidding, engineering, and design makes all of this possible.
Engineering-to-order of both primary product and its supporting systems is costly and time-consuming. It is traditionally done twice, first to support proposal generation, then to support manufacturing. DrawingWise eliminates the repeat.
A DrawingWise automation solution lets the sales team create a complete proposal in a fraction of the time needed before. Jointly with the client the team configures the final product and generates a complete, manufacturing ready, and error-free set of drawings, bills-of materials, and other documents for both the product and supporting systems. All based on client's unique engineering and business rules.
(See demonstrations)
Take for example General Electric's Oil & Gas Nuovo Pignone organization (GE-NP) in Florence, Italy. GE-NP supplies large compressors and turbines used in the oil and gas industry. Each compressor and turbine is supplied with numerous (10 to 12) supporting auxiliary systems like: lubrication, cooling, process, motor control, etc. Each delivery is tailored to the client's specific situation and needs.
This means custom engineering resulting in over 50 drawings and numerous other documents. Today over 250 GE-NP sales, application, and control engineers all over the world do this customization automatically over the Internet. For example, creating the requisite custom drawings, which used to take over 6 weeks, today takes only 20 minutes. In addition, what used to be an error-prone process, now consistently produces error-free drawings good for both proposals and delivery. The DrawingWise technology provided by Design Power made this possible.
Solution Modules
Design Power knowledge-engineers capture the client's proprietary design and engineering knowledge using its powerful rule-based, "DrawingWise", automation technology comprising following modules:
Configurator that automates the configuration of the equipment and all its supporting systems. It produces all the information that the client's customer needs to make an informed decision and all the information needed for the client to start manufacturing after receipt of order.
Drawing Generator that generates a complete and annotated set of technical drawings.
Proposal Generator that automates the generation of customized bill of materials, data sheets, technical descriptions, scope descriptions and other required proposal information.
The Solution Project
The solutions project proceeds in four phases:
- Value analysis
- Implementation
- Deployment
- Solution Maintenance
In the value analysis phase Design Power consultants and knowledge engineers work with the client to identify the largest value opportunities for DrawingWise. Current process cycle times, on-time delivery percentages, in process and fieldwork costs and other bottom-line opportunities are analyzed. The integration of existing software systems into the automation system is evaluated. Finally, the results and recommendations and project cost estimates, are presented to the client for a go/no-go decision.
To implement the DrawingWise based automation solution Design Power engineers work with the client's process and product experts to capture their business, product and process rules and data into the DrawingWise solution. This customization process is divided into phases to provide rapid deployment of solution components. The deployment of the first results of DrawingWise automation of supporting system drawing creation and associated documentation can be expected within a few weeks after start.
Deployment is a continuing process starting with the first completed solution components. To support deployment users are trained and an internal support organization is created.
The clients business, products, and processes continue to evolve. So must the automation system. To facilitate the continuing maintenance of the client-specific rule bases of the DrawingWise solution, the client's product and process experts are trained to maintain and update its rules. This makes the solution sustain and grow. For example, at GE-NP the rule-bases are completely maintained by GE-NP's experts. Design Power on its part continues to support the underlying platform and modules.
